Samsung is going to roll out Android Q? Will your Galaxy get an update?

Google released the 10th version of Android at its Google I/O developer conference being held in San Francisco on May 7. There are over 180 smartphone manufacturers around the globe who uses Android as their operating system and now everyone holding Android smartphones in their hands are wondering that if they will get the update or not. And if yes, when? Well, we can’t really answer the when part as this is entirely up to the manufacturers. Samsung has been very slow when it comes to rolling out the updates. Still today, the company is rolling out the Android Pie. But we can surely tell you that will your device will get an update or not.

The answer is short. Your Galaxy smartphone is likely to get an Android Q if the device came with Android 8.0 out of the box. This is because Samsung offers mostly two major Android OS updates to most of its devices, which means that devices launched with Android 7 or earlier may not receive Android Q. That puts a few premium Galaxy handsets like Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 out of the scope. This would also be applied to any Galaxy launched before 2018.

To be more concise, we have put a list of the devices that may get the update: Galaxy Fold , Galaxy S10e/S10/S10+, Galaxy S9/S9+, Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy A9 (2018), Galaxy A7 (2018), Galaxy A6 (2018)/A6+ (2018), Galaxy A80 , Galaxy A70, Galaxy A50, Galaxy A40, Galaxy A30, Galaxy A20, Galaxy A20e, Galaxy A10, Galaxy J6/J6+, Galaxy J8/J8+, Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20, Galaxy M30, Galaxy Tab S4, Galaxy Tab S5e, Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2019), Galaxy Tab A 10.5 (2018)

The above list is based on Samsung’s current OS update policy and the company has full rights to change it anytime. It will take a few months to know exactly which devices are getting the update and when. The good news is that even if your Galaxy isn’t getting the Android Q, it will continue to get the security updates if it is not older than three years.
